The English department has devised a fun reading challenge for all school years.
Encourage your child to do some wider reading around the books they are reading in class. There are downloadable bingo reading enrichment sheets below for each year for term one (until Christmas). Students need to read books of their choice from the bingo grid, write up a book review and submit them to win a prize. Prizes will be awarded for the first pupils to hand in four corners, a vertical line, a horizontal line and a full house!
As well as being enjoyable, wider reading can help your child with their studies as it can deepen their understanding of language conventions, styles, knowledge of a topic or issue and simply for increasing their vocabulary.
It has the added bonus of encouraging them to spend less time on their phones!
