Enhancements:
  • There are plenty of galleries and exhibition spaces available in the North including The Brewery (Kendal), Rheged (Penrith), York Museum, The Yorkshire Sculpture Park (Wakefield), Manchester City Gallery and The Whitworth (Manchester), The Tate and The Walker (Liverpool) and Tullie House (Carlisle).
  • There are also galleries and exhibition spaces further afield. A trip to the capital could allow you to visit such venues as The Tate Britain, The Tate Modern, The National Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Academy, The House of Illustration, The Design Museum and The British Museum.
  • There are a vast array of websites, including Art UK (artuk.org).
  • Art Matters are a series of podcasts created by Ferren Gibson exploring the interesting ways art meets popular culture and non-traditional art topics. Podcasts include: ‘Art and Tattoos’, ‘Art References in Recent Hip Hop’, ‘Hair Trends Throughout Art History’.
  • Google Arts and Culture has virtual tours of galleries from around the world (artsandculture.google.com).
  • Pinterest is like a web-based pinboard. Find and share images associated with craft and design (pinterest.co.uk)
  • There are plenty of film and TV programmes to watch including ‘Grayson’s Art Club’ (Channel 4), ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’ (BBC2), ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ (BBC2), ‘Glow Up – Britain’s Next Makeup Star’ (BBC3) and ‘Grand Designs’ (Channel 4). BBC iPlayer and All4 also have archived programmes on artists and designers, artistic movements etc.
