Lifesaving Personal Development at Dallam

School News ·
This week at Dallam, our Year 11 students have been receiving important instruction as part of their Personal Development learning. After a significant search for providers, we were delighted to welcome Sam and Stephen, qualified instructors from First Aid Schools https://firstaidschools.co.uk/ who have trained all of our Year 11 students in some basics such as how to administer CPR and how to use a defibrillator.
The company aims “to engage, inspire and develop confidence in dealing with difficult emergency situations”, and this is precisely what they have achieved with our cohort! Our students and staff have enjoyed the sessions, which not only taught them an important life skill, but also set them the homework of spotting the locations of public defibrillators whenever they’re out and about. Do you know where your nearest is? It could definitely be useful to know!
Mrs Dunne, our PSHCE coordinator who organised the training, said, “It was wonderful to see our students taking the training so seriously and taking part so enthusiastically. Sam and Stephen, were engaging and knowledgeable, answering all the questions the students threw at them with ease!“. Year 11 pupils also enjoyed the training, saying it was “really useful“, a “good experience” that they “definitely know more about what to do now” and that they “feel more useful to the community“.
Sam and Stephen were similarly complimentary about our students and their focus and participation. In addition to commenting on our polite, hard-working students and our calm and pleasant atmosphere, our catering team provided them with “the best school dinner they’d ever had“! The day has gone so well that First Aid Schools have agreed to come back in the summer term and deliver training to our Year 10 and Year 12 pupils.
Our students would like to say a big thank you to Sam and Stephen from First Aid Schools. We’re looking forward to seeing them again in June!
