Dallam offers a wonderful state boarding experience, where students meet amazing people, gain an outstanding education and develop into confident, mature young adults. There are many benefits Dallam has to offer, making it one of the best schools for a great boarding experience.

1. The local area is rich with opportunity

With the Lake District only a few miles away, Dallam is the ideal location for lovers of outdoor activities. Students have the chance to take part in a variety of activities including rock climbing, caving, ghyll scrambling, mountain biking, kayaking and gorge walking. This will allow them to try new things and develop skills such as team-building and communication.

2. The wonderful community

Dallam is proud to have such a warm, friendly and welcoming community. In the boarding house, you will meet and study with people from many different countries and have the opportunity to learn about various cultures around the world. The staff at school offer encouragement and guidance and the pastoral team are always on hand to offer additional support to students who need it.

3. There is something for everyone

At Dallam, there are plenty of activities running during lunchtimes and after school for students to get involved with. There is a variety of sports teams and interest-based clubs where students can meet peers from other year groups. Those with a dramatic flair can take part in amazing school productions, and there are even opportunities for those who don’t enjoy the spotlight to help behind the scenes. With the incredible variety that Dallam provides, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

4. The trips are incredible

There are many school trips available for students, both for the day and residentials. In previous years, students have had the opportunity to travel abroad to France, Spain, Belgium and Germany, as well as places closer to home, such as London. There are also plenty of trips to the cinema, theatre and theme parks available to boarders at weekends.

5. The brilliant boarding accommodation and facilities

Dallam offers a warm welcome to all, making students feel right at home from the moment they arrive. There are shared and private bedrooms that are well equipped with the essentials students need and superb recreational areas for boarders to study, socialise and relax. The dining hall provides freshly prepared breakfast and evening meals, with a variety of choices, and there is plenty of space for students to relax, play games, read or watch TV. For parents’ peace of mind, students are looked after by a team of dedicated staff with 24 hour supervision.

6. Dallam is a state boarding school

Dallam is one of the few state boarding schools in the UK, providing high-quality boarding for the lowest possible cost. At Dallam, there are no tuition fees to pay, meaning students can enjoy the benefits of boarding without the cost of a private boarding school. State boarding schools follow the National Curriculum and students take the same exams they would at a non-boarding state school. At Dallam, there are also no exeats or compulsory weekend leave, meaning there is no added stress for families who live far away.

7. There is great flexibility

If full-time boarding is not for you, there are several flexi-boarding options that you can choose from to give your child the benefits of boarding without fully committing to it. Dallam offers weekly and part week boarding where students can stay for the week or a few days and return home at weekends. There are also extended day options where students will receive their breakfast or evening meal and have supervised homework sessions. Flexi-boarding options are great for parents who work early or late shifts, work away from home or wish to give their child extra support with homework.
