How a speed-dating session can increase leadership skills!

Dallam Sixth Form Subject Ambassadors recruitment

Our Sixth Form is geared towards preparing our young people for the world ahead, not just the next step. The Sixth Form focusses on developing leadership skills which we know from employers and HE institutions are key to securing places in the competitive world of work and university places. Our Year 13 Subject Ambassadors held a speed-dating-style session with the Year 12s to talk to them, peer-to-peer, about the benefits of working towards Dallam Sixth Form’s Subject Ambassador Award.

The Subject Ambassador Award is a structured programme run within Dallam Sixth Form which will enable students to demonstrate, with solid examples, the following invaluable leadership skills:

  • self-motivation
  • managing relationships
  • influencing other people
  • communication
  • organisation and time management
  • teamwork
  • supporting the wider community within the school.

The Subject Ambassador Award is popular with our students because they understand its value in helping them develop key independence and employability skills.  We created this award scheme through our ongoing relationship with employers and universities who highlighted the important ‘soft’ skills that they look for alongside qualifications and experience when selecting candidates. – Mr Henneberry, Head of Sixth Form and Assistant Headteacher
