Roald Dahl Day at Dallam School 2021

To join in with the global celebration of Roald Dahl stories, characters and moments on Roald Dahl Day our library is promoting all the books that he wrote and are related to the great author, alongside some creative activities.

Our Year 7s have been taking part in the Phizzwhizzing Dream activity to use their imagination and write down their ultimate dream to put in our dream jars.

Both Years 7 and 8 have also been flexing their creative writing muscles to come up with Dahl-style ‘Gobblefunk’ words like the ones below:

Shabblegabble – when you are so excited that you speak without thinking.  – Charlie, 8MS

Belly-talker – when your belly rumbles, it’s like it’s talking to you.  – Adrian, 7MS

It is recommended that children read for at least 15-20 mins per day.  Our library is well stocked with a variety of fiction and non-fiction books and our friendly librarian will happily make suitable recommendations based on ability and interest.

The library is available to all students before school (from 8:40am) and after school (until 4:15pm) as a quiet reading space.  The following year groups are also welcome in the library to boost their reading time on the following days:

  • Monday – all year groups
  • Tuesday – Year 7
  • Wednesday – Years 8 and 9
  • Thursday – Years 10 and 11
  • Friday – all year groups

Sixth Formers can use the library during any of their free periods.
