Our Year 12 A Level Business students got the opportunity to put their theoretical learning into practice at our annual business presentations event. Acting as financial analysts, the A Level students chose a company to research and then present to our expert panel of financial planners why they think the company is a good investment.
Each year, local financial planning company, FMB give their time to act as a judging panel. They are looking for evidence that students have considered all aspects of the companies they are proposing as investment such as:
- share price and dividends
- market share
- economic patterns
- technological and social issues.
There were four presentations covering very different companies:
- ABinBev – beer brewing company
- EDF – energy provider
- Amazon – online retail giant
- Tesla – electric car manufacturer.
Mr Blyth, A Level Business teacher commented, “This is the first time the students will have experienced a proper formal presentation to people they don’t know; they did really well. The research they had done was thorough and covered the impact of climate change, changes in social attitudes, corporate social responsibility and the impact of the Ukraine war on the price of raw materials.”
We would like to thank Roger Jackson, Director at FMB and ex-Dallam student, and his colleagues Alice Wilkinson and Graham Lappin both Financial Planners. They commented on how impressed they were with the presentations and provided useful tips to each group on how they could improve their business analysis in future.
Well done to all the students for displaying #DallamCourage.
