Our boarding community is based in the village of Heversham, just under two miles from the main school. Offering a warm and welcoming environment, our priority is making our students feel at home. All of our sleeping quarters are well equipped with the essentials our boarders will need, including shared and individual rooms and washing and storage facilities. There are also superb recreational areas for our students to study, socialise and relax and wi-fi is available across the boarding site.

The right room for you

We believe it is incredibly important to provide a nurturing community atmosphere for younger boarders and those that may not have boarded before to encourage them to settle in and make friends. For this reason, we would encourage students in Year 7 to 11 to share a room with some of their fellow boarders within the main boarding house, which is an attractive, modernised Victorian building with lots of character. We recognise that our older students need more peace and quiet for their studies, Whitbarrow Hall is a magnificent residential building that provides 50 individual university-style bedrooms.  Boarders at Whitbarrow Hall have their own en-suite bathroom and private study area. For your peace of mind, students are looked after by a dedicated team of caring staff with 24-hour supervision.

Food at boarding

Boarders have their breakfast and evening meals together in the Dining Hall.  On weekdays, lunch is provided at school. All food is freshly prepared every day by our in-house catering team using local ingredients, providing nutritionally balanced, tasty meals with a range of vegetarian, vegan and non-vegetarian meals available – there is always plenty of choice on offer.  Special dietary needs can be catered for, just let us know when you apply.  Take a look at our breakfast menu and sample weekly menu.

The weekend brunches are amazing!

Social spaces

The junior and senior common rooms are fantastic recreational areas where students can relax on comfy sofas, play games or watch TV or films. There are also smaller, quiet areas for students to read or study.  Sixth Form have their own dedicated common room with kitchen facilities and chill out areas.  Plus everyone can enjoy the acres of outdoor space surrounding the site.       Boarders benefit from great recreational resources to fill their free time – table tennis, pool table, volleyball nets, televisions and gaming consoles.  Plus there’s the obvious benefit of boarding –

there are always friends around to do things with, like a game of football.

Just like you would at home, boarders are able to invite friends over after school or for sleepovers.  We communicate with parents to ask permission for sleepovers and so parents are kept informed about how their children’s social life is developing.

Sports and fitness

Our boarders are lucky to have access to high quality sports and fitness facilities. This includes a dedicated fitness suite, spacious playing fields for outdoor sports, tennis courts and a large sports hall. Based in the middle of the Cumbrian countryside, we also make the most of what the Lake District has to offer and regularly organise trips to enjoy all the stunning outdoors has to offer from a simple hike to ghyll scrambling.
